Between work, code, and everyday life, updating a blog easily slips down the priority list. But recently, I came across an article by Elizabeth Tai about why creators need their own websites, and it struck a chord. It reminded me of a core philosophy I’ve always believed in: owning your digital platform.

I realized I don’t want to rely on the whims of external platforms. I don’t want to worry about Facebook suddenly deciding to delete my data, or an algorithm changing how I connect with people. As a Cloud and DevOps engineer who spends hours configuring Docker containers, managing Linux servers, and routing networks through Cloudflare Tunnels, it only made sense to apply that same self-hosting ethos to my personal brand. So, I decided to take control and self-host jongi.za.net on WordPress. This space is entirely mine, and my digital signature is back.

To reintroduce myself—and for anyone who might have missed my original “about me” from two years ago—I’m Jongilanga. I’m based in Cape Town, and when I’m not waist-deep in full-stack development, server migrations, or handling CCTV and IT infrastructure installations, I’m usually out on the road logging miles and training for my next marathon.

But it’s not all just servers and running shoes. I recently celebrated my birthday and had an absolute blast playing guitar with the family. Nothing beats sharing those unplugged moments with my family. I’ve attached a video of our little jam session below!

While my goal is to make this site my primary, independent home on the web, you can still catch snippets of my life on other platforms. I might not update them as religiously as I plan to update this site, but I’m still around:

Instagram: instagram.com/jongi_ct/

Facebook Page: facebook.com/jongilanga

A recent Facebook Reel: Check it out here

GitHub: [Insert your GitHub link here]

I’m excited to be back in control of my data and my voice.
